How to Apply
Applying for Global Learning’s study abroad programs is easy and fast with our simple online application – just follow the instructions below:
1. Get Started!
Research the available STUDY PROGRAMS and read the related INFORMATION and FAQ on the Global Learning website. Search programs online to learn more about them – you can search by destination or by fields of study in the menu bar. Consider the following questions as you research Global Learning programs:
- When do you want to study abroad?
- How long do you want to be abroad? A summer, winter, semester, year?
- Do you need specific classes for your major or minor?
- Are you in the process of doing a research or writing up a dissertation/thesis?
… and finally…
- Are you eligible to enroll in the chosen study program? Completing a self-assessment is easy and straightforward!
While our website contains all the essential information you need to know before applying to go study abroad, if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact our educational advisors at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
2. Apply Online HERE
Once you have selected a program, follow the link to APPLY ONLINE. All students must submit an application via the online system. Please read carefully the instructions, complete the application form online and include also the required supporting materials. The online application can be completed in any order. Complete a self-assessment to determine if you are eligible to apply. You can also apply for two or more semesters at the same or a different host university. Together with submitting your online application, you must also pay (by electronic transfer) the non-refundable application fee of 50 EUR / 60 USD / 80 AUD – bank account details are available HERE. In an unlikely case that your application is rejected, the non-refundable application fee (50 EUR / 60 USD / 80 AUD) will be automatically returned to your bank account within 10 days from your application’s submission date. Please note that your application will not be reviewed until we receive the completed online application form with all required attachments and the non-refundable application fee.
When applying for Brussels Summer School: To register, please complete the electronic APPLICATION FORM and pay the tuition fee (390 EUR). Please note that your application will not be accepted until we have received the completed online application form with all required attachments and a print screen confirming that the full tuition fee has been paid by electronic transfer – bank account details are available HERE. Within the next 24 hours, you should receive an email from us confirming that we have received and reviewed your application. Once the tuition fee is received, you will be issued and sent a formal Letter of Enrollment confirming your placement in the program. (Please note that when completing the online application form, EU citizens only need to submit a scanned copy of their ID card. Also, you don’t need to pay separately the non-refundable application fee as it is already included in the tuition fee of 390 EUR.)
3. Preliminary Acceptance
Once submitted, your online application will be processed and you will receive a notification of preliminary acceptance from Global Learning within a week of sending in your application. (Add firstname.lastname@example.org to your email contact list to ensure messages are delivered to your inbox.) This acceptance letter confirms your placement in the chosen study abroad program or winter/summer school. Together with your preliminary acceptance letter, you will also receive a receipt confirming your payment of the non-refundable application fee. If you are not able to attend the study abroad semester, you can cancel your participation by emailing us, at the latest, a month before the start of the program.
4. Make a Study Plan
After receiving the notification of preliminary acceptance (for semester study abroad programs), you can make a study plan and an overview of all the courses you want to follow at the host university. If you are currently enrolled in an institute of higher education, you may discuss the study plan with your international coordinator. If you plan to collect data for your final thesis by doing a field study in another country, you can also liaise with your mentor or supervisor. Please present the study plan to your home institution, which is in charge of granting the transfer credits, to ensure full recognition for your studies abroad. Remember to apply for possible funding and scholarships early. You may find more information on how to make a study plan and how to transfer credits for your study abroad HERE.
5. Tuition Fee Payment and Visa
As a next step, you will be sent a tuition fee invoice via email within 2-4 weeks after receiving a notification of preliminary acceptance. The tuition fee is due within ten days of the date of billing as stated on the invoice – bank account details are available HERE. Upon the reception of your tuition fee payment, you will receive your host institution’s official acceptance letter, which will be sent to you by Global Learning at the latest one month before the start of your study abroad program. You will need your host university’s official acceptance letter when applying for a visa (if you need one). It normally takes 3-5 working days to apply for a visa and have it processed. More information on visas is available HERE.
6. Arrival in Your Study Abroad Destination
There is a welcome dinner and orientation held at the beginning of every study abroad program in our study destinations in Asia that you are strongly encouraged to attend. You will also be sent a Global Learning Study Abroad Guide a month before your study abroad program begins, which includes detailed information on all practical matters. We encourage all our students to also attend orientation meetings for outgoing students organized by their respective home institutions. Our study abroad specialists are happy to answer any other questions regarding the process of application you may have.
